School councils are structured groups of parents, principals, teachers, trustees and community representatives who work together to effectively support and enhance student learning. They provide a means for members of the school community to consult with and provide input to the principal and the school board. School councils allow parents to be a voice for their children within the public school setting. School council offers a great way to meet other parents and stay connected with our school community. Granum's School Council meets about eight times a year for about an hour each time.
Parents have always been a big part of Granum School and in May 1995, Granum School Council was officially established.
Granum School parent volunteers work with staff and school board members in an advisory role.
School Council is encouraged to become politically involved in provincial education through Alberta Learning. The School Board asks for School Council's input on proposed policies from time to time.
Parents are heartily welcomed and encouraged to attend School Council meetings, whether they are official members or not. Our Annual General Meeting is held at the beginning of the school year. Everyone is invited to come to any of our meetings to participate in discussion and debate and have input into your child's education. We need you to enable us to do a good job.
